Archive’s rise in Europe has been nothing short of monumental. Now, with ‘Controlling Crowds’, the band finally make their first excursion onto their homeland of the UK. Already established European festival headliners (and colossally popular in France, Poland, Germany and Greece), ‘Controlling Crowds’ has already reached number one in the album charts of France and Greece, as well as number two in Switzerland, with festival headline spots above the likes of Kasabian and N*E*R*D and support slots with Muse confirming the band’s colossal status. And with this release, the band are more excited than ever, bringing all that they have sewn home.

‘Controlling Crowds’ will be released for the first time in the UK and US on 20th September 2010.  The album’s theme is simplistic given the title; the sensation of controlling crowds and the overwhelming desire of human beings to control everything, to consume everything way beyond their needs and mark the stages of a wild journey in a world where man has never achieved such a degree of freedom but also never been so subtly manipulated.

You could be forgiven for thinking that Archive came barreling out of the former Soviet Union; their dense, intense music owing as much to the monumental composers of the Eastern Bloc as it does to Western rock bands. Their melancholic blend of electronics and hard hitting, guitar anthems will undoubtedly blend into the UK’s musical consciousness, befitting names like Nine Inch Nails, 65daysofstatic and modern-day The Cure.

So, for the first time, the band bring Controlling Crowds to the shores of their homeland; comprising four parts or chapters within these two albums, the combination is by far the band’s most ambitious work to date.

Both albums, ‘Controlling Crowds – Parts I-III’ and ‘Controlling Crowds Part IV’ will be available for digital download from 20th September 2010.

Metallica take on Beatles and Van Halen in three-way battle for gaming supremacy

Three of the biggest names in music history are going head to head in the Music Game Of The Year category in the world’s biggest video games awards event, the Golden Joystick Awards.

The multi million selling heavy metal titans are gunning for the prestigious award with their ‘Guitar Hero: Metallica’ titleand will face stiff competition from the hugely popular ‘The Beatles: Rock Band’ and ‘Guitar Hero: Van Halen’.

With over 300 million album sales between them, the trio has collectively rewritten music history. While The Beatles have helped shape the face of popular culture for the past 50 years, Metallica have popularised heavy metal music across the globe and Van Halen have fused virtuoso rock musicianship with spectacular live performances, placing them into the Guinness Book of World Records for having the most #1 hits on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart.

All three bands released their games in the past 12 months and are nominated alongside seven other blockbuster console based music games. The full list of nominations in the Music Game Of The Year category for the 2010 Golden Joystick Awards is;

Guitar Hero: Metallica

DJ Hero

Guitar Hero on Tour: Modern Hits

Guitar Hero 5

The Beatles: Rock Band

Guitar Hero Greatest Hits

Band Hero

Guitar Hero: Van Halen

Just Dance

Lego Rock Band

The categories in the Golden Joystick Awards are voted for by the only people who matter – the gamers themselves. Known as the ‘people’s gaming awards’ it is also held in high esteem in the global video games industry with nearly 1,000 executives attending the glittering ceremony, which will this year be held at London’s Park Plaza Westminster Bridge hotel on 29th October 2010.

This year’s awards see the first introduction of the Music Game Of The Year category, reflecting the huge popularity of the genre as music games have taken gaming more mainstream and positioned the games console firmly at the heart of family entertainment.

The ever-growing Golden Joystick Awards has been the ultimate accolade in gaming since 1982 and is now recognised as the biggest and most popular gaming awards on the planet. Gamers cast 1,223,646 votes in 2009 as the awards scooped its own accolade, being named ‘World’s most popular video games awards’ by Guinness World Records.
